The H-5500, although using the same fabulous tube set as its predecessor, differs significantly from the H-1202. It has:
- a power supply double the capacity of the H-1202’s
- DUAL MC and MM inputs
- a redesigned, heavier, more solid aluminum chassis
- a current meter for monitoring tube status
Relative to the H-1202, these features provide not only the ability to hook up 4 tonearms (2 with MC carts, and 2 with MM carts) simultaneously, but also greater balance throughout the frequency range and tighter, more powerful bass - in a chassis that resists vibration more effectively. It truly is an all-round sonic and visual beauty.
Considering the H-5500’s features, the introductory $4500 price tag is even more of a remarkable value than the H-1202 at $3750.
