Allnic T‐2000 by Cliff Orman

Allnic T‐2000
After more than 35 years listening to high end Hi‐Fi equipment, it is quite strange for
me to find something that really surprises me, and if it does, it normally costs rather a lot or is
just prohibitively expensive. This is one of those rare occasions when I have listened to a piece
of gear that not only sounds amazing, but also doesn´t cost an arm and a leg.
This integrated amplifier is designed by the South Korean, Kang Su Park. Kang Su has
been designing valve electronics for more than 30 years and his design’s started out life
commercially under the brand Silvaweld. Silvaweld started production in 1990 and during the
seven years that the brand was produced their electronics came to be highly regarded.
I had the pleasure of meeting Kang Su, at what I believe to be, the first presentation of
Silvaweld products in Europe, at London’s Hi‐Fi show at Heathrow. If the truth be known, at
the time I didn’t know who Kang Su Park was or his brand Silvaweld! After listening to his
preamplifier and OTL monoblocks coupled to a pair of Guarneri, it quickly became clear that
his electronics were rather special. I still have the brochure Kang Su gave me back then and
maybe this is a little sign of how impressed I was. Nearly all brochures I might be given go
straight into the round file (read: waste paper basket!) It certainly was clear that Silvaweld was
not just another “Chinese” company making cheap copies of classic valve designs. Kang Su was
involved with Silvaweld and the company that manufactured the products, Hanil, until 1997,
when he decided to sell all the existing stock to Mr. Cho of Hanil and start Allnic.
During the last 15 years Kang Su has dedicated his life consolidating Allnic as one the
world’s most respected family run high end audio companies.
After this short introduction, I would like to introduce you to the integrated amplifier I
have had the pleasure of listening to lately: the Allnic T‐2000
I won’t bore you with the technical details of this amplifier. If you need to know more
have a look at Allnic’s website: www.allnicaudio.com
The T‐2000 is one of Kang Su’s latest designs and uses the KT‐120 to give 70 watts per
channel. The first thing that attracted my attention was the excellent build quality and
aesthetics. This really is an amplifier that looks and feels far more expensive than its asking
price.
Sound Quality
Before talking about the sound of the T‐2000 it is necessary to talk about silence. The
first thing you notice is the mechanical silence, this clearly shows the excellent work Kang Su
has done winding his own transformers in house. This silence coupled with the electronic
circuits quietness combine to make, what is the base for all music: Silence! The T‐2000 really
shows a clean pair of heels to the competition in this area.
After just a few minutes of warming‐up I soon realized that what I was listening to was
going to be something special. The music starts to flow with a liquidity very seldom heard and
if we take the price into consideration, I would say, never. The presentation of the music has a
rightness to it that makes you sit up and take notice immediately. The soundstage is three
dimensional, but not larger or smaller than it should be.
One of things that most bother me about the majority of amplifiers is their lack of
phase stability. I know how difficult it is to maintain phase over the whole spectrum and it is
not something that can be measured precisely. Needless to say the Allnic excels in this area.
Also timbre is very natural, as is timing.
To summarize all this, I think the best way to do so is talking about emotion. The T‐
2000 makes you want to listen music and nothing else, not analyze its defects, that of course it
has, as all electronics do. It is one of a select group that allows the music to open their
windows to a world of detail and emotion rarely experienced in high end Hi‐Fi. Every note
captures your attention and, if the rest of your system is at the same level, makes you want to
listen and listen and….. What more can I say: Simply delicious!
